12 Lives Lost in Deadly Crash on Baimari–Geidam Road in Yobe

At least 12 people have tragically lost their lives in a devastating road accident on the Baimari–Geidam Road in Yobe State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Sector Commander for Yobe, Livinus Yilzoom, confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Damaturu on Wednesday, December 4, 2024.

According to Yilzoom, the accident occurred around 10:00 pm on Tuesday when a Howo truck collided with a bus, registered as BAU 124 YF, near Chelluri village.

The collision resulted in the bus bursting into flames, leading to the deaths of 12 passengers, who were all burnt beyond recognition.

“Preliminary investigations show that the immediate cause of the crash was road obstruction caused by the Howo truck, while excessive speed and overload by the bus driver were identified as contributing factors,” Yilzoom stated.

He further urged motorists to avoid travelling at night, particularly during the harmattan season, as poor visibility is a significant contributor to accidents during this period.
