Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie has been shortlisted among the final five nominees for the prestigious 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced the top contenders for the award on Wednesday night, 4 December. Nnadozie is the only Nigerian among the finalists, as Rasheedat Ajibade did not make the final cut despite being named in the initial 10-player shortlist.

Joining Nnadozie in the final five are Malawi’s Tabitha Chawinga and Temwa Chawinga, Zambia’s Barbara Banda, and Morocco’s Sanaâ Mssoudy.
This year’s award will mark a departure from the dominance of Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala, who has won the title six times, including the last three consecutive editions.
In addition to her nomination for Player of the Year, Nnadozie is also a finalist for the Goalkeeper of the Year award, a title she won in 2023.
Meanwhile, Chiamaka Okuchukwu of Nigeria’s Falconets has been listed among the top contenders for the Best Young Player award.
For Coach of the Year, Chris Danjuma of Nigeria’s Falconets has advanced to the final shortlist, surpassing compatriots Bankole Olowookere of the Flamingos and Moses Adukwu of Edo Queens, who were included in the initial nominees’ list.
The Super Falcons, Nigeria’s national women’s football team, have been nominated for the National Team of the Year award, while Edo Queens, a Nigerian club, are among the finalists for Club of the Year.
