US Police Release Images of ‘Person of Interest’ in Murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson

Police in the United States have unveiled new images of a “person of interest” in connection with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a New York City hotel.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) released CCTV stills on Thursday, showing a man wearing a hooded jacket with his face clearly visible. This contrasts with earlier images where the individual’s face was largely obscured by a mask.

Thompson, aged 50, was ambushed and shot dead early Wednesday morning outside the New York Hilton Midtown hotel. Surveillance footage widely circulated on social media depicts the gunman emerging from behind a car, firing multiple shots at Thompson, and then fleeing the scene.

NYPD officials have characterised the killing as a “premeditated” and “targeted” attack.

Media reports, citing unnamed law enforcement sources, indicate that bullets found at the scene bore inscriptions reading “deny,” “defend,” and “depose.”

These phrases bear a resemblance to the title of a 2010 book, Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims and What You Can Do About It, which critiques the strategies employed by insurance firms to avoid settling claims.

Police have not disclosed a possible motive for the murder. However, Thompson’s wife has told US media that her husband had received threats prior to the incident.
