Kebbi Police Rescue 36 Kidnap Victims

Kebbi State Police operatives have rescued 36 people kidnapped by bandits in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.  

Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Abubakar said in a statement on Monday 9th December 2024 that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Sani, praised the officers for their bravery and professionalism.

On 8th December 2024, a large group of gunmen blocked the Mairairai/Bena road in Danko/Wasagu LGA and kidnapped 36 people returning from their farms.  

Following the incident, a joint team of police, army, and vigilante forces engaged the bandits in a shootout, forcing them to flee into the forest with gunshot wounds. All 36 victims were rescued unharmed and reunited with their families.

The statement read: “In it’s sustained onslaught against banditry and other heinous crimes in the State, on the 8th December, 2024 at about 1800hrs, gunmen in their large numbers barricaded Mairairai/Bena road in Danko/Wasagu LGA and kidnapped Thirty Six (36) people who were coming back from their respective farms.

“On receipt of the report, a combined team of the Police, Army and vigilante swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the bandits in a gun duel, overpowered them, forcing the bandits to escaped into the forest with gunshot wounds and successfully rescued all the Thirty Six (36) victims unhurt. They have since been reunited with their families.

“In view of the above tremendous achievement recorded by the operatives, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani commended their bravery, resilience and professionalism and urged them to be more committed in not making Kebbi State a safe heaven for criminals.

“The CP equally charged the Police and other security agencies operating in the area to intensify synergy among them with a view to decisively deal with the bandits and other unscrupulous elements.”
