German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier arrived in Nigeria on Tuesday night, 10 December, for a state visit that will run until 12 December 2024.
He was welcomed at the presidential wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
During his stay, President Steinmeier is expected to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Alieu Omar Touray, to discuss key issues of mutual interest.
The visit will also take him to Lagos, where he will meet business leaders, visit a start-up hub, and interact with prominent figures in Nigeria’s cultural and civil society sectors, including Dr Nike Okundaye and Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka.
While in Lagos, he will also examine the city’s urban development, focusing on environmental and social challenges. The visit aims to strengthen ties and boost collaboration between Germany and Nigeria.
