FCT Police Ban Firecrackers for Christmas and New Year

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has banned the use of firecrackers, commonly known as knockouts, during the Christmas and New Year festivities.

In a statement released on Saturday, 14th December 2024, Public Relations Officer SP Josephine Adeh explained that the ban aims to safeguard the lives and property of all FCT residents.

FCT Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu emphasised that the use of firecrackers and fireworks can cause unnecessary alarm and distress within the city. Furthermore, they pose significant risks, including fire hazards and other preventable incidents.

The police warned that individuals found selling or using firecrackers and fireworks will face arrest and prosecution. Community leaders and residents are urged to raise awareness about the dangers associated with these items.

The police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or violations of the directive to the Police emergency numbers: 08032003913; 08061581938 and 07057337653.
