Marcus Rashford Open to Leaving Manchester United

Marcus Rashford has revealed that he is open to leaving Manchester United, amid reports that the club may look to sell him in January.

The forward has fallen out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim at Old Trafford and was omitted from the matchday squad for Sunday’s Manchester derby. There has been speculation that the Red Devils are considering offloading Rashford in the January transfer window as part of a ‘cultural reboot’ at the club, aiming to improve the standards that have declined in recent years.

In light of the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his future at his boyhood club, Rashford has now admitted he is ready to leave Old Trafford and embrace a ‘new challenge’ in his career. After progressing through United’s youth academy, Rashford made his senior debut in 2015 under then-manager Louis van Gaal.

In a chat with journalist Henry Winter, the 27-year-old said: “For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. You’re not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That’s me as a person.

“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me.”

He added: “I’m halfway through my career. I don’t expect my peak to be now. I’ve had nine years so far in the Premier League and that’s taught me a lot, that’s helped me grow as a player and as a person.

“So I don’t have any regrets from the last nine years. I won’t have any regrets going forward because I take things day by day and sometimes bad things happen, and sometimes good things happen. I just try and keep a fine balance. 100%. That’s my mentality.”

When asked if he would always be a red at heart, Rashford quickly responded: “Yes! 100%. 100%.”

Rashford’s current side will return to action this Thursday in a Carabao Cup quarter-final clash against Tottenham Hotspur. It remains to be seen whether Amorim will include Rashford in the matchday squad for the fixture.
