Kaduna Police Arrest Notorious Bandit, Three Car Thieves, and Recover Arms and Ammunition

Operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have apprehended a notorious bandit and three car thieves in Kaduna, recovering AK-47 rifles along with 50 rounds of ammunition.

The spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, 18 December 2024.

“On December 16, at about 6:00a.m., operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit led by their officer incharge, Sp Sani Ibrahim, acting based on credible information, successfully intercepted and arrested a 22-year-old suspect, Aliyu Umar, in Zaria,” the statement read.

“The suspect was apprehended in possession of eight AK-47 magazines and 50 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition.”

During preliminary investigations, the suspect confessed to being a member of a notorious bandit gang operating in Zamfara State. He also revealed that he had travelled to Barikin Ladi, Jos, to collect the weapons from another accomplice, whose identity remains unknown.

In a separate operation, police officers posed as buyers to arrest three suspected car thieves.

“On December 16, 2024, acting on credible intelligence that, a group of young men were observed attempting to sell a vehicle under suspicious circumstances.

“Police operatives, posed as prospective buyers, engaged the suspects, and that confirmed the suspicions about their activities.

“This tactical approach led to the arrest of the following individuals: Kefas Danladi, 24, from Gora Gan, Zangon Kataf, Kaduna, Usman Salisu, 23, from Unguwan Muazu, Kaduna and Yusuf Danladi, 22, from Kauru, Kaduna,” the statement continued.

During investigations, the suspects admitted to stealing the vehicle from a resident’s home in Naval Quarters, Asokoro, Abuja.

“The rightful owner of the vehicle has been contacted and notified of the recovery. Further investigations are ongoing, and the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” Hassan added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents. He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police.
