The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has closed down a facility manufacturing illegal cosmetic products in Ipaye Iba, Lagos State.
In a statement released on its X handle (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, 18th December, NAFDAC revealed that its officials conducted a raid on the premises, apprehended a member of staff, and seized a range of products including body washes, cleansing soaps, skin lightening creams, children’s skincare items, and packaging materials.
NAFDAC added that the facility has been sealed to prevent further production, while one of the staff members is currently in custody pending further investigation.
NAFDAC further reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public health through the regulation of unregulated and unsafe products in the market.
The agency emphasised that the production and distribution of illegal cosmetics poses a significant risk to public health and the Nigerian economy.
