Troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) have apprehended two suspected gunrunners attempting to purchase an AK-47 rifle for ₦1.45 million.
The suspects were arrested during a covert sting operation conducted on Friday in Bokkos Town, Plateau State.
The arrest occurred at a hideout in the White House Hotel, where the suspects were negotiating the illegal arms deal.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, confirmed the arrest on his X handle on Friday.
The suspects were identified as Mr Kenneth Mayas, 31, and Mr Bulus Yilfo, 60. Both hail from Forop District in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
“During the operation, troops recovered the cash sum of ₦1.45 million from the suspects, who are believed to be part of a larger criminal syndicate,” Makama reported.
The arrested suspects and the recovered money are currently in custody for interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate.
