At least 10 people are feared dead after a tragic accident involving an articulated lorry and a Sienna minibus in Ebem Ohafia, along the Ohafia-Bende-Umuahia road in Abia State.
The accident occurred on Sunday, 22nd December 2024, when the lorry, laden with chippings, suffered brake failure while descending Nmuri Hill. It subsequently collided with the oncoming minibus, trapping the occupants underneath.
Eyewitnesses reported that victims were trapped for hours, enduring severe pain while awaiting rescue.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents who blamed the accident partly on the deplorable state of the road.
“How come the federal government has failed to rehabilitate this road over the years?” an eyewitness lamented.
As of press time, rescue operations were underway to remove the lorry and recover the bodies of the victims.
