On Thursday, 2nd January 2025, Hon. Rachael Averik, the Special Assistant on Political Affairs to the Governor of Kaduna State, narrowly escaped an ambush by suspected bandits in Southern Kaduna.
The attack occurred on the road between Tsauni Majidadi and Gani villages in Sanga Local Government Area while Averik was returning to Gwantu.
Earlier that day, she had attended a condolence visit and formally opened a hospital built by Alhaji Muhammad Umar Numbu in Arak Chiefdom.
As her convoy was travelling, the gunmen opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange of gunfire between the assailants and Averik’s security detail.
During the confrontation, her driver and a police officer sustained gunshot wounds. Authorities have since initiated an investigation into the incident.
The Kaduna State Government strongly condemned the attack and reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing security in the region.
Despite the harrowing experience, Averik expressed gratitude for surviving the ambush and extended her sympathies to the injured members of her team.
