A deadly clash between suspected rival cult groups in Owo on Monday 6th January 2025 resulted in the tragic deaths of four people, including a woman and her baby.
Among the victims was Fisayo Oladipo, a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) locally known as “Fissey Ehin Ogbe”. It is alleged that he was shot during the violent confrontation.
The mother and child are believed to have been struck by stray bullets fired by the suspected cultists.


An eyewitness described the incident as terrifying, with sporadic gunfire echoing through parts of the town for an extended period.
“We thank God that students are not around because we have been hearing gunshots and after it was heard that some people have been killed early this morning,” the eyewitness stated.
The remains of the deceased have been taken to the mortuary at the Federal Medical Center in Owo.


Confirming the incident, Mrs. Funmilayo Odunlami, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, stated that police officers have been deployed to the area to restore order.
“Four people have been confirmed d3ad, but normalcy has returned through the intervention of the police and efforts are on to arrest the perpetrators of the act,” Odunlami said.
