A 30-year-old barber, Toheen Folarin, was tragically murdered by suspected cultists in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Tuesday 7th January.
According to a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the assailants ambushed Mr. Folarin while he was working in his shop at around 10pm. They shot him in the chest and then brutally severed his left hand and made away with it before fleeing the scene.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Obantoko immediately dispatched a team of detectives, along with support from a patrol team and the Anti-cultism Unit. Upon arrival, they found the victim lying in a pool of blood with his severed hand missing.
The subsequent attempt to move the body to the mortuary was met with resistance from irate youths who insisted on adhering to Islamic burial rites.
CSP Odutola assured the public that the police had launched a full-scale manhunt for the assailants and that the initial tension and restiveness in the area had been brought under control.
