Rory Callum Sykes, a 32-year-old former Hollywood child star, tragically lost his life in the recent devastating wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles.
Sykes, who was born blind and diagnosed with cerebral palsy, was reportedly trapped inside his home, a self-contained cottage near Malibu, when the fire engulfed the area.
His mother, Shelley Sykes, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a statement, revealing that she was unable to reach emergency services due to communication disruptions.
“I couldn’t put out the cinders on his roof with a hose because the water was switched off,” Shelley shared in an interview with 10 News. “When the fire department brought me back, his cottage was burnt to the ground.”
Reports indicate that Shelley was forced to drive a significant distance to seek help after her 911 calls went unanswered. Tragically, firefighters later informed her that her son had succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning.

Sykes, a British-born Australian living in the United States, was best known for hosting the British RTV show “Kiddy Kapers” in 1998. Despite his disabilities, he overcame numerous challenges, undergoing extensive therapies to regain some sight and learn to walk.
In a moving tribute shared on Twitter/X, Shelley expressed her profound grief: “It is with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my beautiful son @Rorysykes to the Malibu fires yesterday. I’m totally heartbroken.”
She continued, “British born Australian living in America, a wonderful son, a gift born on mine and his grandmas birthday 29 July 92, Rory Callum Sykes.”
Shelley concluded her message with, “He will be incredibly missed by @shelleysykes, mama his pet peacocks Edgee and Mickie and all his online fans around the world!”
Following Shelley’s announcement, an outpouring of condolences poured in from fans and followers.
