Residents Flee Benue Community in Fear After Farmer Killed by Kidnappers Despite Ransom Payment

A prominent Benue farmer and businessman, Terzungwe Shaku, has been tragically killed by his kidnappers despite his family paying a N5.4 million ransom for his release.

Shaku was abducted shortly before the New Year in Akor village, Nzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area. After over two weeks of captivity, his family paid the ransom, which was initially demanded at N20 million.

However, reports indicate that the gunmen shot Shaku shortly after the family left the designated drop-off point. Upon hearing gunshots, the family rushed back to the scene and discovered Shaku’s lifeless body.

Following this horrific incident, residents of Akor and surrounding villages are fleeing the area out of fear of further attacks.

A spokesperson for the Benue State Police Command, SP Catherine Anene, stated that she had not yet received any information regarding the incident.
