Nasarawa United have been charged with breaching the NPFL Framework and Rules during their Matchday 18 fixture against Rivers United on 22nd December 2024.
According to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Nasarawa breached NPFL 2025 rules following encroachment onto the field of play during the match.
The NPFL stated that it was established that Nasarawa failed to ensure proper conduct of their team and supporters, which led to the assault on the away team and centre referee Musibaudeen Ibrahim.
Consequently, the NPFL ruled that Nasarawa will pay a fine of N3 million, which is N1 million each for encroachment onto the pitch, failure to ensure proper conduct of their team and supporters, and failure to provide adequate and effective security.
The NPFL also ruled that three points and three goals shall be deducted from Nasarawa’s accrued points and goals for the assault on the centre referee.
The Lafia-based team have also been ordered to identify and prosecute the individual(s) involved in assaulting the away team, with details of their progress to be submitted to the NPFL within seven working days of this notice.
In its final ruling, the NPFL determined that the Lafia City Stadium will be closed indefinitely to fans until security is enhanced and the state box is barricaded, with the club directed to provide feedback on compliance to the NPFL security department.
