Police Command Approves Four Checkpoints at Seme Border to Curb Extortion

The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has announced the approval of four designated checkpoints along the Seme Border corridor to curb the proliferation of unauthorised checkpoints and extortion.

This decision was reached during a security meeting held on Tuesday, January 14th, with Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Adegoke Fayoade, who heads the Zone 2 Command (comprising Lagos and Ogun States).

The meeting, attended by representatives from the Nigerian Army, Customs Service, Immigration Service, Civil Defence Corps, Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Police Force, aimed to address the issue of rampant checkpoints and restore order along the Seme Border for the sake of economic growth in the region.

Seme Border, located at the boundary between Nigeria and the Republic of Benin, is a crucial trade corridor. A key outcome of the meeting was the establishment of a joint task force comprising members from all security agencies.

According to the police, this task force will be responsible for enforcing compliance at the four designated checkpoints: Seme Point, Gbaji Point, Apa Point, and Agbara Point.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer (ZPRO), CSP Umma Ayuba, stated that this measure will enhance security cooperation and facilitate economic growth along the border corridor.

Members of the public are encouraged to report any complaints regarding security issues along the Seme Border by contacting 07088158606 or 09062011772.
