Doctor Abducted in Anambra Despite New Security Operation

A medical doctor with the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State, Dr. Collinus Onuigbo, was abducted by unknown gunmen on Tuesday, 22nd January.

This incident occurred just three days after the launch of “Operation Udo ga-achị” (Peace must reign), a joint security force by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, aimed at combating crime and restoring peace and security in the state.

Reports indicate that Dr. Onuigbo, a neurosurgeon, was kidnapped outside his residence, located a short distance from the Teaching Hospital. Residents claim that his family members have been deeply distressed since the incident and have been actively working towards his safe and unharmed release.

Confirming the incident, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, stated that the command is investigating the matter and has mobilised operations for the possible rescue of the victim and the apprehension of the suspects.
