Lagos Warns: 14-Year Jail Term for Sharing Child Pornography

The Lagos State government has issued a stark warning: individuals caught distributing or forwarding child pornography and other explicit content involving children on social media could face up to 14 years in prison.

This was announced by Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency, during a workshop for headteachers, teachers, social workers, and school counsellors held in Lagos.

“Forwarding child pornography, as provided for in the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Law, can attract up to 14 years imprisonment,” Mrs. Vivour-Adeniyi stated.

She emphasised that child pornography and obscene publications are criminal offences and that the workshop aims to educate participants, including guidance counsellors, teachers, and heads of schools, about the severe consequences of sharing such content, particularly via social media.

“We all know that pornography can have a negative impact on the cognitive behaviour of those who watch it. So, it is important for us, especially when it comes to children, to inform our participants, guidance counsellors, teachers, and heads of schools, and let them know.”
