22-year-old Sentenced to Death for Murdering Sex Worker in Ogun

An Abeokuta High Court in Ogun State has sentenced 22-year-old Jamiu Malomo to death by hanging for the murder of Asisat Akande, a suspected sex worker, in July 2021.

The incident took place on 18th July 2021, at approximately 9:30 pm in the Ori-Apata area of Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta. The prosecution, led by Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions A.M. Adebayo, presented evidence that Malomo, then 18, had taken Akande from the 3AD bar in Panseke to his home.

Following sexual intercourse, Akande demanded the agreed-upon payment of N10,000. However, Malomo refused to pay the full amount, offering only N8,000. This led to an argument that escalated when Malomo stabbed Akande in the neck with a knife, causing her death.

Malomo was subsequently arrested by the police at the 3AD club while attempting to solicit another woman.

On Wednesday, 22nd January, Justice O. Ogunfowora delivered the judgement. Finding Malomo guilty of murder beyond reasonable doubt, the court sentenced him to death by hanging.
