Bandits have demanded a ransom of N540 million for the victims abducted this week from a General Hospital in Kankara local government area of Katsina State.
The attack on the hospital occurred on Tuesday, 21st January, leaving a medical doctor and one other individual with gunshot injuries. Dr Murtala Sale Dandashire was wounded during the assault when the bandits attacked the hospital, and several staff members were abducted.
Yusuf Muhammad Mairuwa, an Assistant Director of Nursing Services and head of the hospital’s nursing section, is among those kidnapped. Reports indicate that the bandits are demanding N270 million for the release of the nurse.
The bandits have also requested an additional N270 million for the release of other hospital staff and some workers from a nearby fertiliser factory who were also kidnapped during the attack.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Kaula Mohammed, said: “We are restrategising our security approach to ensure that our medical professionals can perform their vital duties without fear. The safety of our healthcare workers and residents remains our paramount concern.”
