Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his readiness to take bold and decisive actions to address the challenges facing both the state and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
His declaration comes amid an ongoing feud with his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Fubara made the statement during a condolence visit to Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, on Saturday evening at the Government House. The visit was in response to the passing of Mohammed’s stepmother, Hauwa Duguri, who died at the beginning of the new year. Despite the visit being slightly delayed, Fubara emphasised that the strength of their relationship and their shared commitment to addressing critical issues remained the priority.
“I know this visit is a bit late, but the most important thing is that we are here. We are here to comfort the Bauchi governor on the loss of his mother,” Fubara remarked.
In his address to Governor Mohammed, Fubara acknowledged the challenges of leadership and underscored the need to take action when necessary.
“I know it’s not an easy task, and I know names will be called, but it gets to a time when you must come out strongly and take a position so that things will be done rightly,” he stated.
Fubara further emphasised that his visit went beyond a simple condolence gesture. “What I’m doing now is to show everyone that we have a good relationship and that we are in this together to ensure we set things right,” he said.
He also assured Governor Mohammed that their collaboration would not end with this visit, pledging continued partnership for the unity and growth of both states. “I can assure you that this is not the end of our visit. We will continue to work together for the unity and growth of both states,” he added.
In response, Governor Mohammed praised Fubara as a calculative and strategic leader, commending his ability to take charge of the political structure in Rivers State despite tensions. He reaffirmed his support for leaders who uphold justice and equity.
“We are delighted to receive you. Fubara is very calculative and strategic. First of all, I want to thank you for the empathy you have shown; your visit has truly made me happy,” Governor Mohammed said.
As Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Governors’ Forum, Mohammed assured Fubara of Bauchi’s ongoing support. “Bauchi has always stood by you because you mean well. We will always align ourselves with justice, equity, and truth, which is why we will continue to support you,” he added. He also congratulated Fubara on his determination in claiming what is rightfully his, taking control of the party’s structure in Rivers State, and assuming the leadership role.
