At least five residents, including a family of three, were kidnapped by a gang of armed men in Chikakore, Kubwa, Abuja, on Sunday evening.
The attack occurred at around 11 pm on the Health Centre extension axis of the community. The assailants, numbering around 20, forcibly entered several homes, abducting the residents.
Among the victims were a man, his wife, and their son, along with their visitor and another neighbour. During the attack, a woman sustained head injuries from a gunshot and was rushed to hospital.
Police arrived at the scene an hour and a half after the incident, by which time the assailants had fled.
The community has experienced a surge in criminal activity, including a previous incident in early January where bandits fleeing from Katsina State detonated explosives in the area, resulting in the deaths of two people.
Residents are demanding an increased police presence in the area, citing the lack of a permanent police station despite available land and facilities.
