Anambra State Police operatives have arrested four suspects, including a 21-year-old woman, Chinenye Ekwenugo, in connection with the burning of a 74-year-old woman in a wheelchair in Abagana.
The other suspects, identified as Uzochukwu Okeke (47), Fidel Anayo (60), and Ikenna Anene (54), were also apprehended.
During interrogation, Chinenye confessed that her boyfriend, Ifeanyi Igwe (currently at large), and three others set the victim ablaze and had even obtained a casket to dispose of her body. Police operatives have recovered the burnt remains of the deceased, the wheelchair, and the casket.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
The body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue for an autopsy.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed these details and stated that efforts are underway to apprehend the main suspect, Ifeanyi Igwe. Further updates will be provided.
