Enugu State Government Condemns Man Who Cut Off Wife’s Hand in Barbaric Attack, Vows to Prosecute Him

The Enugu State Government has strongly condemned the brutal attack on Mrs. Chinonso Echegi by her husband, Sunday Onyeahanachi Echegi.

It was reported that Echegi viciously cut off his wife’s hand during a domestic dispute in Ibagwa Ani, Nsukka Local Government Area.

Mrs. Echegi is currently receiving medical treatment at Enugu State Teaching Hospital, while the fleeing suspect has been apprehended by authorities.

Speaking through the Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, Ngozi Enih, the State Government denounced the horrific act and assured that the perpetrator will face the full consequences of his actions.

“This barbaric act is not just an attack on one person but a painful reminder of the urgent need to end gender-based violence (GBV) in our society,” stated Ms. Enih, who visited the victim in the hospital. “Violence against women and girls, in any form, is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Enugu State.”

The Enugu State Government has taken swift action to ensure that Mr. Sunday Onyeahanachi Echegi is brought to justice.

“My office is working diligently, alongside relevant agencies, to provide Mrs. Chinonso Echegi with all necessary support and to ensure that the full weight of the law is brought down on the perpetrator,” Ms. Enih emphasized.

“This incident serves as a stark warning to anyone contemplating acts of violence against women. Enugu State has zero tolerance for gender-based violence, femicide, and all forms of abuse. We are committed to protecting the rights, safety, and dignity of every woman in our state.”

Ms. Enih further highlighted that gender-based violence is a societal issue that affects everyone. “It robs families of loved ones, destroys lives, and hinders progress. We must all work together to raise awareness, support survivors, and hold perpetrators accountable,” she stated.

“I urge all stakeholders, community leaders, and individuals to stand united against GBV. Let us build a society where women and girls can live without fear, where their voices are heard, and their rights are upheld.

“To those who may consider such acts, know this: Enugu State will not hesitate to act. Justice will be served, and you will face the full consequences of your actions.

“Together, we can end GBV and create a safer, more equitable society. Let us all join hands to make this a reality.”
