14-Year-Old Girl Arraigned for Stealing N4 Million in Lagos

A 14-year-old girl has been arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing N4 million.

The defendant, whose address is unknown, faces two charges: breach of the peace and theft, to which she pleaded not guilty, according to Vanguard reports.

The alleged offences occurred on 31st January at approximately 12:01 pm in the Ajara Tozunkanmeh area of Badagry, Lagos State, according to the Prosecutor, Inspector Ayodele Adeosun.

Adeosun told the court that the minor entered the home of Mrs Hannah Oni without her consent, using a spare key, thereby conducting herself in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace. The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant stole N4 million belonging to the complainant.

“This is not the first time the defendant will be entering the room of the complainant with a spare key to steal money,” Adeosun stated. “On that very day, [the defendant] was caught inside the house of the complainant stealing money. The defendant was handed over to the police for prosecution.” Adeosun informed the court that these actions contravene Sections 168 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

Chief Magistrate Patrick Adekomaiya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety, who must be her father. The case was adjourned until 5th March for mention.
