UEFA Sanctions Roma, Frankfurt, and FC Twente for Fan Misbehaviour

European football’s governing body, UEFA, has announced sanctions against Serie A’s AS Roma, Bundesliga’s Eintracht Frankfurt, and Dutch club FC Twente following incidents involving their supporters in recent European matches.

Roma secured a 2-0 home victory over Frankfurt in last month’s Europa League clash, a result that sent Roma to the tournament’s play-offs and still allowed Frankfurt to secure a top-eight finish. However, the match was marred by half-time disturbances.

Fireworks were set off and fans clashed in the stands, though stewards and police quickly brought the situation under control, allowing the game to resume without delay.

As a result, Frankfurt were fined €20,000 for lighting and throwing fireworks, as well as crowd disturbances, and an additional €5,000 for property damage. Roma received a €30,000 fine and a partial stadium closure for their next hosted UEFA club competition match.

FC Twente also faced disciplinary action following their 1-0 win against Turkey’s Besiktas. The Dutch club were fined €35,000 and ordered to partially close their stadium due to crowd disturbances.
