Seventeen students, aged between seven and 17, have died in a fire at an Islamic school in Kauran Namoda town, Zamfara State, on Tuesday night, according to a state police spokesperson.
A further twelve students were taken to hospital with severe burns.
The fire broke out at the school, and the cause is currently under investigation, police spokesperson Yazid Abubakar said on Wednesday, 5th February.
Hussaini Adamu, who lost two children in the tragedy, said the fire originated in a neighbouring house before spreading to the school.
