Imam, 9 Others Abducted in Sokoto Mosque Raid

Ten worshippers, including their Imam, have been taken hostage by suspected bandits in Bushe, a community within the Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The raid occurred in the early hours of Thursday, as worshippers gathered in the mosque for Subhi prayers. It’s understood that the assailants stormed the place of worship at dawn.

Police spokesman, DSP Ahmed Rufai, verified the incident on Friday morning. “I just confirmed the incident from the DPO of the community when I spoke with him on the telephone,” he stated. ” want to assure you that the Nigeria Police, in conjunction with other security agencies, are working tirelessly to ensure the immediate release of all the abductees.”

A local resident, speaking to Punch, explained that the community has been repeatedly targeted, even with the presence of security personnel, including soldiers from Operation Fasan Yamma, based at the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division headquarters.

Sa’idu Ibrahim, a member of the Sokoto State House of Assembly representing the area, also confirmed the kidnappings, putting the number at a minimum of ten. He did, however, praise the efforts of the troops in preventing further abductions.
