The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended John Gambo, a student from the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa (FPN), in connection with the murder of Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student from the same institution.
In a statement released on Friday, 7th February 2025, the Police spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, revealed that Gambo admitted to attacking the victim with both an axe and a knife during a violent confrontation.
The incident occurred on the morning of 6th February 2025, when Mercy Bassey, a local resident near ECWA Peace College on Shagari Road, Nasarawa, reported a violent altercation between two individuals to the Nasarawa Division at approximately 2:00 AM.
According to the statement, the altercation took place between one of Bassey’s tenants and a friend at their residence.
Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, dispatched a team of detectives to the scene without delay. The officers found Ibrahim Matthew, the ND2 Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood, having sustained severe injuries. He was rushed to the General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was sadly pronounced dead.
Following the discovery, the body was taken to the morgue for a post-mortem examination.
Through a thorough investigation, authorities tracked down the suspect, John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student at the same institution. Gambo confessed to attacking Matthew with both an axe and a knife, which led to the fatal injuries that caused Matthew’s death.
Both the weaponry used in the attack, the axe and knife, were recovered from Gambo.
The Commissioner of Police has instructed that the case be referred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a full investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
