Two Dead, 13 Freed as Police Repel Bandits in Katsina Village

Tragedy struck Maibakko village in Katsina State’s Sabuwa Local Government Area when bandits launched a pre-dawn raid, resulting in the deaths of two villagers. However, swift action by local police prevented further harm and secured the release of thirteen kidnap victims.

The attack unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, the 6th of February, as a large group of armed bandits descended upon the village. Witnesses reported the sound of gunfire ringing out as the assailants stormed homes and seized residents.

At approximately 1:43 am, the Sabuwa Divisional Police Headquarters received an urgent call for assistance. Officers immediately mobilised and engaged the bandits in a fierce firefight.

Katsina State Police Command spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, confirmed the incident to reporters, explaining that the intense exchange of gunfire forced the attackers to retreat, enabling the safe return of the thirteen abductees.

Regrettably, two civilians were killed during the raid, and another sustained injuries. The rescued villagers have since been reunited with their loved ones. Police are continuing their pursuit of the fleeing bandits and have pledged to bring them to justice.
