U.S. President Trump Vows to Bring Back Plastic Straws

President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Friday, 7th February, to criticise paper straws and pledge to go ‘back to plastic.’

The president of the United States of America said he would be signing an executive order next week “ending the ridiculous Joe Biden push for paper straws, which don’t work.”

He wrote on his Truth Social media account: “I will be signing an Executive Order next week ending the ridiculous Biden push for paper straws, which don’t work. BACK TO PLASTIC!”

The social post drew immediate praise from Trump’s greatest supporter, Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

“Greatest President ever!” tweeted Musk on X, the social media platform he owns that was formerly known as Twitter.

This is not the first time paper straws have drawn President Trump’s ire. In 2019, he sold Trump-branded red straws on his official campaign website, branding them as an alternative to “liberal” paper straws.

The straws, which were marketed as recyclable, were branded with the message that “Liberal paper straws don’t work. STAND WITH PRESIDENT TRUMP and buy your pack of recyclable red straws today.”

This raised eyebrows with environmental groups at the time, with some noting that most plastic straws can’t easily be recycled.
