A tragic incident has occurred in Kontagora, Niger State, where a police officer, identified as ASP Shafi’u Usman Bawa (AP/No 337979), died by suicide.
The Nigerian police confirmed the news, stating that ASP Bawa took his own life by hanging himself.
The officer’s father, Mr. Usman Bawa, of Rigasa area in Kontagora, reported the incident to the authorities on Saturday afternoon, according to a police report. The body was taken to the General Hospital Kontagora, where a doctor pronounced ASP Bawa dead.
Following confirmation of his death, the body was handed over to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.
The police have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death and have indicated that further information will be released as it becomes available.
