Nigerians have voiced their outrage after MTN announced a significant hike in the price of its 15GB data plan. The cost reportedly tripled overnight, rising from ₦2,000 to ₦6,000 without any prior notice.

The sudden surge in charges has triggered a wave of protests on social media, with many customers accusing the network provider of unfair business practices.
An X user, under the name Waffle$, expressed frustration over the price increase, saying, “Imagine MTN @MTNNG increasing their tariff 15gb overnight without prior notice to customers. This is no way to do things man. I even sent them a message and they told me cause they wanna serve me better. Damn!!”

The backlash grew stronger, with another X user calling for a boycott of the network. “I think it’s high time we boycotted MTN. Their network is terrible, and their data plans are a rip-off. the 15GB package doesn’t even last three days. During the protest, they deliberately sabotaged their own network to prevent it from happening.”

During the protest, they deliberately sabotaged their own network to prevent it from happening.
Many Nigerians have joined in the discontent, sharing their own negative experiences with MTN’s service, citing poor network quality and what they see as inflated data prices.
MTN really think say I go pay 6k for 15gb

Nigeria is a very difficult place to live in honestly. MTN waking up one day to increase their weekly 15gb data from 2k to 6k without prior warning is textbook insanity.

That's 24k in a month, almost the minimum wage of the country on data, bruh, this is hell.
mtn increasing 15gb price from 2k to 6k is the most brutal thing. why did they do that??

Just last night I bought MTN 25gb for N6,500 (receipt in frame 1).

This morning it has increased to N9,000 (current price in frame 2).
Almost 50% overnight increase, yet we will just post about it for a while and move on to the next trending topic. pic.twitter.com/xXQuOfy3q2
The price increase has raised concerns about the pricing structure of telecommunications services in Nigeria. MTN’s decision to implement the hike without prior notice has left many feeling betrayed and frustrated.
