Terrorists Attack: Soldiers Killed, Gun Trucks Stolen in Borno Military Base Assault

Three Nigerian Army personnel were killed in an attack on a military base in Isige town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, last Sunday, 9th February, according to SaharaReporters.

Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists reportedly attacked the facility for several hours, razing buildings and stealing two gun trucks. The names of the deceased soldiers are being withheld pending notification of their families.

A source told SaharaReporters that a Staff Sergeant and two privates were killed in the attack, which the army has not yet publicly commented on.

The source said: “There was an attack recently in Borno, one Staff Sergeant with two private soldiers were killed. However, the army authorities are silent over the attack which happened at a base in Isige Town, Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State.

“They burnt one military vehicle while they went away with two gun trucks, later reinforcements came from nearby unit but then the Boko Haram fighters have left.”

This incident follows a similar attack just weeks ago on a Forward Operating Base in Damboa Local Government Area, also in Borno State. The number of soldiers killed or missing in that attack remains unconfirmed, though sources told SaharaReporters that at least seven bodies were recovered. ISWAP claimed responsibility for the Damboa attack and released images of its fighters engaging the military.

Since the death of Abubakar Shekau, leader of Boko Haram, ISWAP has strengthened its presence around Lake Chad, absorbing many former Boko Haram fighters. Despite the ongoing attacks, the Nigerian Army has consistently maintained that the insurgency has been largely defeated, often downplaying losses. The conflict has resulted in over 100,000 deaths and displaced millions across Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states.
