The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has taken firm action against numerous officers following investigations into various instances of misconduct, from murder to extortion.
A leaked internal memo, dated 23rd January 2025 and seen by SaharaReporters, reveals the scope of the disciplinary measures.
Nineteen officers have been sacked and will face prosecution. The list includes senior officers such as ASP Ogunmuyiwa Saburi, ASP Idris Dan-Auta, CSP Pascal Ugocha, SP Yakubu Hankuri, DSP Mohammed S. Jahun, DSP Ayodele Emmanuel, and DSP Jimmy Ayeni. Their cases have been passed to the Commissioner of Police (CP) Legal at Force Headquarters for legal proceedings. Others facing court appearances include ASP Imoohi Dora, ASP Lawali Ahmed, ASP Salisu Ibrahim, and ASP Monday Ahmad Opanda. ASP Abdullahi Garba is to be prosecuted for murder and culpable homicide, highlighting the severity of some of the offences.
A further 24 officers have been demoted for professional misconduct. Amongst them are ACP Mohammed Aminu, now reduced to CSP, and CSP Helen Ajuma Negedu, who has been demoted to SP. SP Bello Aliyu and SP Ehimen Paul have been demoted to DSP, while DSP Haruna Abdulmumini and DSP Ferdinand Oyigbo have been reduced to ASP. Several Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs), including Ndikamwu Henry, Enimade Oyediran, Ojulari Olaseni Oluwadara, and Adewumi Adeola, have been demoted to Inspector.
Ten officers, including ACP Muhamad Auwal Yunusa, ACP Kalat Shamang, and CSP Nwanchor Emmanuel, have received severe reprimands. Nine others, including DCP Mohammed A. Jika and CSP Mathew Omosun, have been officially reprimanded.
ASP Emmanuel Kura has been removed from the Police Mobile Force (PMF), DSP Hauwa Kulu Sulaiman has been ordered to repay nine days’ salary, and DSP Ayuk Tachen will be surcharged for the loss of a firearm. DCP Coker Olalekan James was exonerated after an investigation cleared him of any wrongdoing.

The range of disciplinary actions, from dismissal and prosecution to demotion and reprimand, demonstrates the force’s determination to address these issues.
