Man Nearly Lynched for Stealing Sand from Children’s Footprints in Kwara State

Residents in Ilorin, Kwara State, accused a man of removing sand from two schoolchildren’s footsteps, and he barely avoided a vicious lynching.

Locals in the Adewole community are shaken and looking for explanations after the event, which happened close to Mandate Estate during the morning school rush.

Mr. Ola, a witness, told Daily Trust that he was following the kids and their mother when he noticed the man, who was only known as Bello, reportedly picking up sand from the kids’ footsteps and putting it in his pocket.

People gathered as soon as Ola sounded the alarm. Before bystanders intervened to prevent further violence, Bello was reportedly severely beaten and on the point of being lynched. He was then escorted from the area.

The mother of the children, who didn’t know until Ola spoke up, said she was shocked and worried. At the scene, she told Daily Trust that parents and guardians should be very watchful and protect their kids.

When questioned by Daily Trust, Bello failed to provide a convincing justification for his behavior. All he said was that he was heading to the nearby area of Oko Olowo. His failure to provide an explanation for his sand-collecting activities has just added to the mystery and stoked local rumors.

It’s unknown if Bello was arrested, and the police have not yet responded to the incident. In order to comprehend what transpired and guarantee the security of their children, the community is now demanding a thorough investigation.
