Rivers State Police Ban Illegal Barracks Accommodation Sales

The Rivers State Police Command has condemned the illegal practice of officers selling barracks accommodation to their colleagues after retiring or being transferred out of the command.

According to a police wireless message dated 25th February 2025, obtained by SaharaReporters on Wednesday, the state police authorities have prohibited officers from selling or purchasing barracks accommodation.

The directive was addressed to Deputy Commissioners of Police (DECOMPOLS), the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), the Department of Operations (DOPS), all Assistant Commissioners of Police (ALL ACPOLS), all Superintendents of Police (ALL SUPOLS), Heads of Departments (HODS), and Tactical Commanders (TACTICAL COMDRS).

The memo with reference number CB:4001/RVS/VOL.60A/122, reads, “Order and directives. COMPOL (Commissioner of Police) has observed with dismay the way and manner police officers are illegally selling barracks accommodation to fellow officers when retired/transferred out of the command or relocating from the barracks accommodation.

“COMPOL directs that henceforth on no account should any officer sell/buy barracks accommodation. All to ensure this is made a subject of lecture to personnel yours. Failure to adhere to this directive will be met with serious/decisive consequences.

“O/C works only: It is your responsibility to ensure this illegality is stopped without further delay.

“State Provost Marshal: You are to ensure you give the O/C works all necessary support in achieving COMPOL’S directive.”
