The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has expressed strong condemnation regarding the racist abuse directed at Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey following Sunday’s FA Cup match against Manchester United.
Bassey initiated the scoring at Old Trafford, with Bruno Fernandes later levelling the score. However, Fulham, the west London club Bassey plays for, ultimately triumphed in a penalty shootout, securing their place in the quarter-finals after a 4-3 victory.
Despite his exceptional performance in the FA Cup encounter, Bassey was subjected to racist remarks from certain individuals on his social media platforms.

This has prompted a robust response from the NFF, conveyed through a statement on their official X account.
“The NFF stands firmly against all forms of discrimination, including racial abuse, and fully supports @CalvinBassey in the face of these unacceptable actions. We are committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all players, both on and off the field. Calvin has our unwavering support, and together, we will continue to fight against racism in football and society.,” the post declared.
