In Yobe State, suspected Boko Haram militants have abducted the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), along with other travellers, near Kamuya village on the Damaturu-Biu road.
University officials have acknowledged the incident, though they have refrained from providing further details. A source speaking to Daily Trust revealed that the professor was returning from a visit to his family in Maiduguri when he was abducted. He was scheduled to attend a meeting the following morning, and his family was aware of his travel plans. The event has caused significant alarm within the university community.
It is understood that the professor was among thirty individuals in contention for the Vice-Chancellor position at NAUB. A security source reported that suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram members conducted an ambush on travellers on 2nd March 2025, abducting an undisclosed number of people from two Golf cars and a Borno Express bus. The source further disclosed that all female passengers were released, while the male passengers, which included Professor Abubakar Eljuma, were taken.
Authorities and local residents are appealing for prayers for the safe return of the victims, particularly during the sacred month of Ramadan.
The Damaturu-Biu road has experienced recurrent incidents of abductions and fatalities, leading to widespread anxiety among those who travel the route. Five months ago, a faculty member from the Department of Building was fatally attacked on the same road while returning from Maiduguri.
