Eric Chelle Names Final 23-Man Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Ahead of his first matches in charge, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has finalised his 23-man squad for Nigeria’s upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

This selection comes as a reduction from the 39-player provisional squad announced last week. The finalised squad consists of: Three goalkeepers, six defenders, six midfielders and eight forwards.

The squad blends seasoned players with fresh talent, showcasing a mix of experience and potential.

Goalkeepers: Stanley Nwabali (Chippa United, South Africa), Amas Obasogie (Singida Blackstars, Tanzania), and Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars).

Defenders: William Ekong (Al-Kholood FC, Saudi Arabia), Bright Osayi-Samuel (Fenerbahce SK, Turkey), Bruno Onyemaechi (Olympiacos FC, Greece), Calvin Bassey (Fulham FC, England), Olaoluwa Aina (Nottingham Forest, England), and Igoh Ogbu (SK Slavia Prague, Czech Republic).

Midfielders: Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City, England), Raphael Onyedika (Club Brugge, Belgium), Alhassan Yusuf Abdullahi (New England Revolution, USA), Alex Iwobi (Fulham FC, England), Joseph Ayodele-Aribo (Southampton FC, England), and Papa Daniel Mustapha (Niger Tornadoes).

Forwards: Samuel Chukwueze (AC Milan, Italy), Victor Osimhen (Galatasaray FC, Turkey), Ademola Lookman (Atalanta FC, Italy), Victor Boniface (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), Simon Moses (FC Nantes, France), Sadiq Umar (Valencia FC, Spain), and Nathan Tella (Bayer Leverkusen, Germany), and Tolu Arokodare (KRC Genk, Belgium).

These matches will also mark Chelle’s debut as head coach of the three-time African champions.
